Serve Team Goes to South Africa
It was very early on a cold and frosty winter morning, January 31, 2009, when a team of 8 volunteers, plus 5 of the Eisses family met to pray and travel to Pearson International Airport. They were headed to South Africa for one month, to minister love and care to the children at eSimphiwe & the Emmanuel’s Wish sponsored Foster homes, as well as to encourage the staff, neighbours and surrounding community.
Once in South Africa, activities for the children, and after-school programs were planned and run by the team. The children responded wholeheartedly and with much enthusiasm. Armed with many donated craft and school supplies, sports equipment, backpacks for the foster children, blankets, personal hygiene items and first aid supplies, the team was happy to be able to help many people at eSimphiwe, in the Foster Homes and within the community. After-school programs were run at the Foster Homes several times each week and it did not take long for the news of this to get out. Soon neighbourhood children were arriving to join in on the activities, which included soccer and other sports, as well crafts, stories and the chance to share Christ’s love to each of these precious little ones.
This was a life changing experience for many of the teens and adults who were a part of this team. Eyes were opened to a new world full of needs that we take for granted. They were overwhelmed and amazed by how God used their servant’s hearts to be His hands and feet to touch a hurting world.
